I am so ready for Fall to begin. I am poised to throw on layers of clothing, a good scarf, a warm hat and socks that reach past my ankles. Enough with the oppressive heat of summer. On with the cool breezes, the blazing colors of falling leaves, the pungent odor of yard burning, and, of course, the corn maze. I have been a big whiner all summer long about the heat and humidity. It seems like this summer was worse than others, probably because I am not living in my own home where I can crank up the air conditioning. Kevin never told me that he thought I was like a penguin until I was pregnant. I said something about needing it colder while I was so pregnant and he let me know that I always like it cold, regardless of pregnancy. I figure, you can always put more layers on, but you can only take so many layers off. Plus, my parents would not be very happy if I decided to walk around naked or even semi-naked. Come to think of it, I wouldn't be very happy either. I am a definite prude.
I have been training for my first 5K ever. I have always thought it would be cool to run a half-marathon. Whole marathons seem way to intense for me, but a half-marathon is one of my "life goals." I have actually started a "before I die I want to accomplish" list and put that on there. I figure a 5K is a good place to start, and judging by how slow I am at running, it may be where I finish as well. I work out regularly and I push myself running, yet I am simply not a fast runner. To me, a level 5 on the treadmill is an all-out dash! Still, I am optimistic that I can improve my time. I am all about the "personal best" as opposed to the "beat everyone else." Of course, my sister, Laura, and my good friend, Booger (aka Michelle #2) are also running the 5K and they have mile-long legs. I won't say it wouldn't make me happy to at least keep up with the two of them.
Ah, running. Kevin would be so proud. He is definitely missing out on the woman I plan to become.
