Jeremiah and such

Today in church we had an especially poignant message about the book of Jeremiah. When God called Jeremiah to be His prophet, Jeremiah's protest was "But I'm too young!" Then God said, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you" (Jeremiah 1: 6-8). It made me think about my whole status as a widow. Often, when I pray, I think to myself that I am too young, that Kevin was too young, that Gloria is too young to bear this tragedy. I know it is common to feel like youth should exclude us from grief and pain, but it is never that way. It was good to hear that God doesn't just send us out into the world without being with us. Apparently, the most often repeated phrase in the Bible is "Do not be afraid," always followed by, "for I am with you." Lately I have felt very disconnected from God. Actually, I have felt disconnected from myself too. Everything about life has been frightening me. I am terrified of being a single mom, I am terrified of ever trying to date again, I am terrified of trying to find a real job and I am terrified of losing more loved ones. I suppose that being scared is normal, and I just need to remember that God is with me.

Onto less serious topics, I am dogsitting for Reggie right now and he is making me nuts. He doesn't want to go outside to go to the bathroom unless I go outside with him, he expects a treat every time I leave the house, he growls at Gloria so I can't let her walk around when he is there, he jumps on the table and snatches anything that isn't in the center and he barks incessantly for no reason. Suffice it to say, he is really good at annoying me. Still, he is fluffy and cute, and he is always ecstatic when I walk in the door. Also, since he is the reason Kevin won me over I will always have a soft spot for him. He used to growl at Kevin when he would hug or kiss me, as if he was a jealous boyfriend. Perhaps that is why he growls at Gloria . . .

One last comment: Watching Family Guy tonight Seth Macfarlane mentioned that David Hyde Pierce does the voice of Stewie Griffin. Can I just say that made my day?
